NEXT MEETING -- Linux Movies Group -- Hollywood Region

Feb 2nd, 2005 - mental ray

Speakers

Presentation on writing shaders for mental ray, with an overview of rendering theory and mental ray's capabilities. A mental ray shader is a runtime-linked plug-in written in C/C++ that can make images more photorealistic or faster to render.

mental ray rendering software processes 3D models created in packages such as SoftImage or Maya and outputs photorealistic 2D images for movies. It combines physically correct simulation of the behavior of light with full programmability to create images of outstanding quality and unsurpassed realism. It uses GPU acceleration and recursive sampling techniques for faster rendering on single processor machines and provides scalable performance across networks of machines.
