Linux Getting the Terminal Colors Right

Sometimes Linux terminal commands ls and vi don’t display the colors you like

2015/10/25 – When you ssh, are you struggling to read blue text on black in ls or vi? Here’s a quick fix…

vi ~/.bashrc
alias ls='ls --color'
LS_COLORS='di=36:fi=93:ex=31'
export LS_COLORS
vi ~/.vimrc
"syntax off
set background=dark

You don’t need both syntax colors off and to configure for background dark in vi. You can pick which you prefer by commenting out the other with a double-quote mark, as shown above.
