Hollywood Linux Movies Group Presenter Guide

Our typical meeting date is the first Wednesday of the month. If for some reason we can't meet on that date (e.g., holiday) then the third Wednesday is our alternate.

Agenda

Location

Our usual meeting location is Flash Film Works in Hollywood near Melrose and Highland. Everyone else must park on the street, but there is one parking place for the presenter inside the studio next to the door of the back building. The meeting room is in the back building upstairs. Our host at Flash Film Works is technology chief Dan Novy.

A/V Equipment

Audience

Meeting room at Flash Film Works holds about 30 people. Since we don't require RSVP we never know how many to expect. We try to fill the room.

Prepare for presentation level similar to demo to a studio's operations and technical staff. Avoid presenting tutorial material except as review. Suggest you demonstrate workflow with Q&A as you go along. Audience can include technologists, programmers, artists, editors, students, managers and technology chiefs. Don't hold back technically, swing for the fences.

Airports

LAX is the closest airport to Hollywood. Alternatives are Long Beach (Jet Blue) and Burbank (Southwest). Peak traffic in Los Angeles can cause extreme delays. Avoid getting caught in rush hour traffic. Under best conditions it's 45 minutes from LAX.  Allow for double that or more.

Hotels

There many hotels to chose from. It's a tourist destination. From LAX you pass through Culver City, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. Beverly Hills is elegant, West Hollywood has the club scene, and Santa Monica is charming on the ocean. Culver City is less upscale, but has Sony Pictures studios.

A sampling of some local hotels. Prices, of course, can vary.

To find more hotels check Expedia.

Contacts

We have a meeting sign-in sheet kept for our records, but that information is private. The intro session at the beginning will help you know who your audience is. It is up to you to exchange business cards. To contact our group as a whole post to the Linux Movies mailing list. That will go all over the world, not just to those who can make it to the meeting in Hollywood.

Thanks for presenting at the Linux Movies Group!

Cheers,
